Hello, I'm Ken.

Before this, I spent several years working at a Japanese embassy in the Middle East. Again and again I watched people there light up over Japanese crafts, tableware, and anime goods, and it moved me to see how far Japanese culture and things could reach.

At the same time, a question took hold: how could I, myself, get these things out into the world? I was there, but I had no means of delivering anything. I found myself wanting a real tool, something that could build a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world.

That was when I came across engineering, and Shopify. Writing code meant I could create the system itself. With Shopify, good things from Japan could reach people anywhere. It felt as if the path I had been looking for had suddenly opened up in front of me.

I have been sharpening those skills ever since, and I have now worked on more than 30 projects in Japan and abroad. Starting from Shopify stores, that has grown to include company websites, Shopify apps, and cross-border, multilingual commerce. I have also worked on e-commerce development inside a consumer brand business, from requirements through release to improvements after launch. Underneath all of it is the same wish: to take what is good about Japan further.

Business systems are now part of that too. The way something is sold, and the work people do behind it. I believe good things only keep reaching people, without strain, once those two are connected.

One more thing I hold on to: technology is only ever a means to an end. Japan and the world, makers in Japan and the people abroad who use what they make, businesses and their customers. I want to close the small gaps between them, with language, conversation, and the patience to work things out.

Japan still has so many wonderful things the world has not discovered yet. When something crosses a border and makes someone's life a little richer, I would love to be part of making that moment happen.
